Youth Programs

The West Bloomfield
libraries will host several
children's programs.
Stories on the Lawn, stories
and songs for the entire fami-
ly will be 11:30 a.m.-noon Ju-
ly 19 at Westacres branch;
11:30 a.m.-noon July 26 at
Main library. No registration
needed.
Tortoise and Hare will pro-
vide a chance to create your
own paper tortoise and hare.
Grades K-4. Register by call-
ing Main, 682-2120; or
Westacres, 3634022. The pro-
gram will be at the Main
library 44:45 p.m. July 24; at
Westacres 4-4:45 p.m. July 25.
Wild Things will
demonstrate the difference
between wild and domestic
animals through charades
and a microtrek wildlife
scavenger hunt presented by
the Oakland County 4H.
Grades 1-6. Register beginn-
ing July 23. Program will be
at Westacres 11-11:40 a.m.
July 29; at Main library
2-2:40 p.m. July 29.
A Kids Concert with
Maureen Schiffman and Coco
will offer music, puppets,
movement and storytelling.
For children ages 8 and
younger. Children under 5
must be accompanied by an
adult. No registration needed.
The concert will be 4-4:45
p.m. July 31 at Westacres
branch; 4-4:45 p.m. Aug. 1 at
Main library.

DSO Plays
Film Score

The Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra will perform the
original score to the 1922 epic
silent film Robin Hood, star-
ring Douglas Fairbanks Sr.,
as part of the Fox Film Series
Aug. 1-4 at the Fox Theatre.
The performance will be led
by conductor Carl Daehler,
music director of the Ann Ar-
bor Chamber Orchestra, with
organist Dennis James.

Oak Park Library
Big Band Concert

Big band music of the 1940s
will be revived in a concert
7:30 p.m. July 28 at the Oak
Park Library.
Ray Kamalay and the Red
Hot Peppers will entertain
with Hot jazz, improvisations
and ballads.
The concert is sponsored by
the Oak Park Arts and
Cultural Commission and is
free of charge. The Oak Park
Library is located at 14200
Oak Park Boulevard.
