Hosts Summerfest

The local Young Profes-
sionals Chapter for City of
Hope National Medical
Center and Manuel's
Restaurant will host "Sum-
merfest" 7 p.m. July 31 at
Crosswinds Mall, Orchard
Lake Road at Lbne Pine in
West Bloomfield.
The event will feature Mex-
ican cuisine from Manuel's,
door prizes and musical enter-
tainment. Participants can
dance to the music of David
Ball and Co., with ap-
pearances by Ortheia Barnes
and Millie Scott. In addition,
the shops of Crosswinds Mall
will be open throughout the
evening. There is a charge.
All proceeds from Sum-
merfest will benefit City of
Hope National Medical Cen-
ter and Beckman Research
Institute.

Paintings, Dolls
Are On Display

The Cultural Arts Division
of Parks and Recreation will
present a showing of the
works of Hy Vogel and Minnie
Anderson. The show's hours
will be 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Monday
through Friday and 9 a.m.-5
p.m. on Saturdays at the
Southfield Civic Center,
26000 Evergreen Road.
Hy Vogel's watercolor and
acrylic wol'ks capture the
many different expressions of
clowns. Mr. Vogel is known for
his caricatures on the walls of
the London Chop House. The
clown paintings will be ex-
hibited July 22-Aug. 16.
The doll exhibit of Minnie
Anderson has been extended
through Aug. 16. Her "Lil'
creatures" are dolls ranging
from rag dolls to decorated
courtiers.

Myla Perkins, Detroit area
doll collector, will speak 1
p.m. July 13 at the Detroit
Historical Museum on her
more than 800 items of anti-
que and contemporary dolls.
An 1895 example from the
collection is on display in the
Detroit Historical Museum in
its "Collectors in Toyland"
exhibition.
Participants are encouraged
to bring examples from their
collections to the lecture. For
