Local Columnist F ash Bash, one of Detroit's most popular fashion and fund- raising events, will be Aug. 7 at the Fox Theater with guest appearances by top model Cindy Crawford and Evita star Mandy Patinkin. The 22nd annual Fash Bash, a fund-raiser for the Detroit Institute of Arts, is sponsored by the, DIA's Founders Junior Council, Hudson's and Northwest Airlines. To enable more people to attend the exciting event, tickets have been lowered to $25 and $35. The program includes a theatrical fashion show with a repeat perfor- mance by the Minneapolis Ballet of the Dolls dance troupe under the artistic direction of Myron Johnson. A patron ticket for $100 includes excellent seating and a private cocktail reception and auc- tion by DuMouchelle Art Galleries at ClubLand. A press preview was held July 10 at DuMouchelle to unveil the exciting events. Hudson's announced it will donate $50,000 to the DIA, with $25,000 allocated to the Youtheatre and $25,000 to the DIA operating fund. Some of the people spotted in the crowd at the press party included: Sam Sachs, Sue and Alan Kaufman, Miriam Wolk, Bruce Etkin, Janis Rossman, Carolyn Levin and Brian and Michele Schubot. JEWELER HONORED Link Wachler of David Wachler & Sons was honored with an award in the 1991 international pearl jewelry design competition in Tokyo. This is the second consecutive year Mr. Wachler has won the award. His winning pearl brooch is on display in Tokyo and will tour the United States this summer at jewelry shows. SPORTS NIGHT The Jewish Home for Aged's benefactors sports night and annual dinner meeting was held recently at the Franklin Racquet Club. Guest speaker Joe Falls of the Detroit News energized Singer and actor Mandy Patinkin. the crowd with sports memorabilia. Some of the supporters included: Jack Schon, Alan Funk, George Glassman, Gary Shiffman, Steve Weiss, Michael Pivoz, Jerrold Bigelman and Joel Smith. SOFTBALL STARS Local celebrities recently participated in the Shelby Strother Memorial celebrity softball game to benefit the American Cancer Society. The event raised over $4,000 Softball stars Marlene Myers and Paul Gross. to fight cancer. Some of the hitters included: Eli Zaret, Don Shane and Paul Gross.
