FOR 50 YEARS, Hy Vogel
did celebrity caricatures that
line the walls at the now-
closed London Chop House
. . . The last 25, while doing
celeb drawings, he was also
occupied with another love
. . . the painting of clown
pictures.
This Sunday through Aug.
16, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Southfield
Civic Center on Evergreen,
over 20 of his clown paintings
in watercolors and oils will be
exhibited . . . with all for sale
. . . Many people would rather
have a Hy Vogel signed clown
painting to look at in the
house or office than the work
of a famous master, even
though Hy's cost is a very
small fraction of what a Rem-
brandt or Van Gogh sells for
. . . He is a local legend
remembered by many people
. . . And for just a smile, Hy
might also give you a fresh
autograph on one of his clown
paintings.

his Mumford High 1955-56
