America's recent history are
among the images captured
in "The Photographs of Ar-
thur B. Rickerby, the UPI and
Life Years, 1941-1971," exhibi-
tion at the Detroit Historical
Museum, July 17-Jan. 1992.
The 70-piece collection of
the work of the famed photo-
journalist is a nationally
travelling exhibition which is
coming to the Detroit
Historical Museum directly
from the Smithsonian Institu-
tion in Washington, D.C.
In his 30-year career, Mr.
Rickerby rarely missed an op-
portunity to photograph a
political convention, major
sports event or international
news story. Some of the
photos in the exhibition
feature well-known Detroit
locations and celebrities such
as Alex Karas, Lem Barney
and the Ford Motor Company
Proving Grounds. They also
depict landmarks in
America's history shown in
Life magazine such as the
Japanese surrender aborad
the U.S.S. Missouri in 1945
and the day President John F.
Kennedy was assassinated in
Dallas.
Sponsored by Aetna Life
and Casualty, this retrospec-
tive of Mr. Rickerby marks
the first time his collected
works are being shown to a
national audience. The
Detroit Historical Museum, a
Detroit Historical Depart-
ment institution, is open
Wednesday through Sunday,
9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. It is located
at 5401 Woodwad at Kirby in
the University Cultural
Center.
