best time was a respectable
19:00, he prefers to stick with
track. "I didn't do a bad job
but I didn't really enjoy it," he
says, adding that he will pro-
bably not run cross country
this fall.
Sakwa, a gold medal win-
ner in the 1989 Maccabi
Games in Pittsburgh, will
run cross country as a junior
but believes that next year's
track season may see him
running some shorter races.

"I see myself next year run-
ning more half-miles because
I think I can get down to 1:56,
1:55 (from his current best
time of 2:00). And that would
probably put me in the top
five, top four in the state."

Sakwa's long-term goals are
unlimited. "I hope, in cross
country and track, to win
state titles in my senior year.
And next year I hope to get in
the low 16s for cross country
and 4:20, 4:22 in the mile in
track . . . and for the two-mile
around 9:40, 9:35."
Weitzman's immediate
future includes the regional
Maccabi Games in New
Jersey next month. Weitz-
man, who won three silver
medals in Pittsburgh, will
compete in the 100-, 200- and
400-meter races, and possibly
a relay. 0
