They can't seem to get through a day without lots of meat dripping in gravy. Cream always goes into their coffee. One sweet dessert leads to another. But the fact is, these foods can increase the level of cholesterol in the blood which can lead to heart disease. But there's a way to help yourself. By cutting down on the fatty foods in your diet, you could reduce your blood cholesterol level and perhaps reduce your chance of heart disease. So if you think you might be a cholesterholic, contact your American Heart Association for a diet good for life. ■ NEW AWARD WINNING CASUAL RESTAURANT IN NOVI! ■ Specializing in fresh seafood, pastas & steaks ■ Fresh & creative daily specials at modest prices ■ Items for the health conscious ■ Live Piano Music ■ Banquet facilities ■ All Major credit cards accepted 43317 Grand River & Novi Rd. 349 1438 - VICTOR'S NO V I I NN 50% OFF! "I wrote the title 'City Slickers' down on a piece of paper," he recalled. And from that line came the kernel of the movie: Three friends in search of the one thing that would make life meaningful. Like his character, a TV ad salesman ("I buy air for a living —air!"), the 43-year- old Mr. Crystal has had a mid-life crisis or two. "The worst thing that peo- ple can say to me is, 'You never change.' " Mr. Crystal explained. "The hardest thing for me was to send my daughter off to college," he recalled. "The night before we started the movie, I said goodbye to her in her dorm. I felt so weird: `How did this happen so fast?' " The jokes come fast and furious in City Slickers. But it is more than a comedy, Mr. Crystal said of the film's chemistry — a mix of mirth, compassion and "the romance of the West." One scene, however, wasn't especially appealing. Teamed up with a crusty cowboy (Jack Palance), Mr. Crystal is forced to assist a cow give birth to her calf. As he sticks his hands inside the (fabricated) cow to pull out her (real) calf, Mr. Crystal is covered with slime. "What was it they put on me? You know the jelly that comes when you get gefilte fish . . . " Mr. Crystal was kidding. But the scene didn't turn into a joke. Shooting the segment in sub-freezing weather in Santa Fe, Mr. Crystal discovered that the goo was gelling — as ice. To prevent frostbite, he was forced to cut the shoot short and soak his hands in warm water. That was only one of the perils he faced. Mr. Crystal talks of nearly being gored by a rampaging cow and of almost having to take the bull by the horns in a stampede scene. "I was almost comic tar- tare," he said. After surviving the west, Billy Crystal will make his directorial debut on his next project. "The Min will be about 40 years in the life of a come- dian," he said. And who has he landed to star in the lead role? Someone he's worked closely with for 43 years. Billy Crystal. ❑
