Currently in the Elementary School

125

95 students

72

Total:

The Division members have been involved in
the ongoing process of assessing how we have
successfully achieved the goals of providing
quality teachers and quality education. Increasing
parental involvement and informal educational
experiences have also been
on our agenda. Next year,
we hope to do a needs
assessment for our 7th
graders to find out what
they like and don't
like about their studies.

Finally, we hope to
look at strategies for
encouraging greater High
School participation.

Dr. Gerald Stollman

MIDRASHA DIVISION

During the past
year, the Midrasha
Division expanded
its co-sponsorship
of courses and lectures
among regional con-
gregation and Jewish
agencies. One of the
highlights of this
cooperative approach
to programming was
Mr. Arthur Sugarman
the "Great Jewish
Debate" held at Congregation Beth Abraham-
Hillel Moses. Representatives from a wide
spectrum of affiliation and organizations came
together to air common concerns.

A survey was developed to identify educational
needs amongst Midrasha students as well as
distributed to other target populations of potential
students. The data will be used to help design
classes and lecture series which are responsive to
students' needs.

On the theory that the involvement and
support of the parents is critical to the
success of the
School, we opened
two of our Division
meetings to the
parents, the last
one to the faculty
and students, as well.
The results were
extremely interesting.
Our agenda was to
review the High
School's plans for
the future and to
Ms. Barbara Klarman
obtain input from
all of the constituent groups as to the direction
they wanted the School to take.

This year, the parents took a more active role
in working with the School. They organized
and ran a very successful overnight SCHOOL-
IN for first-year high school students.
Socializing and learning together helped
reinforce a dynamic sense that the School is a
great place to be.

Another aspect of our effort to reach out to
the community was the offering of serious
classes to High School parents on Sunday
morning in conjunction with the Midrasha.
These classes were enthusiastically attended and
additional offerings are being planned for the
coming year.

COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION

Under the directorship
of Jerome Schwartz and
a wide range of Com-
munity leaders, the focus
for this Division was
serving the needs of the
Community. The main
thrust was the Resource
Center, and its role
regarding staff develop-
ment and networks for
Jewish educators.
