why you never mention
Zukin's Sodas and Lunches."
(Talk to the boss, Rae. If he
gives me 50 pages, I'll be able
to mention all the places. As
for Zukin's, it sure is a
familiar name and well-
remembered by many.)
CONGRATS . . . to Adelle
and Ruby Kress . . . on their
45th anniversary.
HERE I thought I was go-
ing to mow them down with
my wicked floater ball that
gets batters out because they
swing only at air . . . there's
no ball since it can't reach
home plate . . . Instead, it's up
north to Gaylord instead of
with the Young Professionals
Committee of the American
Cancer Society who will host
the first annual "Shelby
Strother Memorial Celebrity
Softball Game" in conjunc-
tion with the City of
Southfield's Fourth of July
celebration tomorrow . . . It'll
be at the Civic Center on
Evergreen between 10 and
11, diamond number one, at
2 p.m. Shelby was a fine
sports writer at the Detroit
News when stricken this year
with liver cancer that took
his life within 10 days.
TICKETS are on sale for a
funny man who makes his liv-
ing insulting people . . . with
Don Rickles coming to the
New Pine Knob Music
Theatre, July 9, accompanied
by Toni Tennille, former vocal
half of Captain and Tenille.
Don using a script would be
like Dean Martin drinking
tea . . . His ad libbing is what
made him and coupled with a
sharp and caustic wit, Don
has hit the top in enter-
tainment.
CONGRATS . . . to Helen
Sherman . . . on her birthday.
HEALTH DEPT. . . .
Michigan Cancer Foundation
has opened its doors to a
relocated and expanded
breast cancer center . . . The
detection unit is now on
MCF's first floor at 110 W.
Warren . . . Combination of
mammography (a low dose
radiation x-ray of the breast)
and physical exam are per-
formed . . . The Michigan
Cancer Foundation recom-
mends that women have
breast exams every three
years until 35 and then an-
nually . . . By age 35, they
should also have their first
mammogram . . . Mammogra-
phy is recommended for
women 40-50 every one to two
years, and then every year.
ONE OF the most thrilling
moments of their lives was
recently experienced by Rab-
bi Sherman Kirshner of Con-
gregation B'nai Israel of West
Bloomfield, and his wife
Barbara.
