SUSAN ANN (SCHMIER)
OLESHANSKY, a former
Detroiter, now residing in
Sylvania, Ohio, was named
Sylvania Schools 1991
"Teacher of the Year." Mrs.
Oleshansky, a junior high
math teacher in Sylvania for
the past seven years and a
1972 graduate of Wayne State
University, was selected from
over 60 other teachers
nominated by parents,
students, colleagues and
administrators.

PAULA FINKELSTEIN,
Cabrini High School, Allen
Park, has been named a
regional judge for the 1991
National Council of Teachers
of English Achievement
Awards in Writing.

DANIEL J. ELAZAR and
HAROLD M. WALLER,
both former Detroiters, are
recipients of the 1991 Na-
tional Jewish Book Award in
the category of Contemporary
Jewish Life. The award was
presented at a ceremony held
in New York City sponsored
by the Jewish Book Council.
Mr. Elazar and Mr. Waller are
the authors of Maintaining
Consensus: The Canadian
Jewish Polity in the Postwar
World.

ROBERT SHAPIRO, a
Perry Drug Stores, Inc. ex-
ecutive, has been named the
recipient of the Roland T.
Lakey Award by the Wayne
County Pharmacists Associa-
tion. Mr. Shapiro is the presi-
dent of the Michigan State
Board of Pharmacy.

BENNETT SCHWARTZ,

vice president of Harper
Associates, was awarded the
1990 Alumnus of the Year
Award from Michigan State
University's School of Hotel,
Restaurant, and Institutional
Management.

MELISSA VIEDRAH,
formerly of Southfield and
West Bloomfield, has
graduated with honors from
Loyola Law School of Chicago.
Ms. Viedrah, a Law Review
scholar and three-year
representativeto the Student
Bar Association, was selected
as a peer-tutor, and twice.win-
ner of the American
Jurisprudence Award.

Huntington Woods
Sets Concerts

The City of Huntington
Woods will host a 1991 Con-
cert in the Park Series. All
concerts are free and will be
held at 7:30 p.m. The
Oakland County Skate
Mobile will be in attendance.
The Recreation Department
will provide arts and ac-
tivities at the park from
7:30-8:30 p.m. for a fee.
