Aronson, who was unable to
attend the meeting. "Our
biggest challenge is to look
at what kind of services we
currently have and how we
can tap them to help those in
our community affected by
the AIDS epidemic. I hope
the task force will come to
the Federation."
Margaret Weiner, assis-
tant executive director of the
Jewish Family Service, said
she'd welcome suggestions
from the task force. She also
said any Jew is entitled to
JFS services.
"We want to be available,
but we just don't see many
AIDS cases nor do we get
many requests for many
AIDS support groups," Mrs.
Weiner said. "There are
many families in the Jewish
community who don't want
anyone to know. Even
though we keep patient-
counselor confidentiality
sacred, there's a lot of shame
and humiliation involved."
Mrs. Weiner said Detroit's
Jewish community just
hasn't seen Jewish AIDS
cases in the same numbers
as cities like San Francisco
and New York.
"If people approach us,
we'll respond," she said.
"But we don't go out looking
for clients. We never
have." ❑
