Three local teen-agers were
elected to the Central States
Region of Young Judaea ex-
ecutive board. Elana Harris
of Southfield was elected
president.
Also elected to the board
were Rachel Ruskin of West
Bloomfield and Andrew Har-
ris of Southfield. They were
elected coordinators of the
regional newspaper and
cultural activities.
The Metroplitan Detroit
club will resume its program-
ming in the fall. For informa-

Yeshivat Akiva will
graduate nine students at its
18th commencement exer-
cises 7:30 p.m. June 20 in the
school building on Southfield
Road. Diplomas will be
awarded to Jill Barack,
Shaindle Braunstein, Abby
Eisenberg, Steven Green-
field, Rachel Karlin, David
Kirshner, Jordana Morse,
Danny Najman and Elisabeth
Schreiber.
Elisabeth Schreiber and
Rachel Karlin will receive top
honors. Elisabeth will repre-
sent the school as its Hebrew
valedictorian and Rachel will
be the general studies reci-
pient. Both students attend-
ed schools in Israel this year.
Special awards will be
presented during the
ceremony. Larry Singal,
president of the Young Israel
of Greenfield, will present his
synagogue's annual award to
an Akiva graduate. Michael
Traison will present the Rab-
bi Chaim Donin Memorial
Award which is given yearly
in memory of Rabbi Donin,
one of the founders of
Yeshivat Akiva. Rabbi Zev
Shimansky, headmaster, will
present the Frieda Stollman
Memorial Award to help a

Convention
National Commander, Al-
fred Schwartz, of Atlanta,
Ga., representing the na-
tional organization of the
Jewish War Veterans of the
United States of America,
will speak at the Michigan
Convention of the Jewish War
Veterans June 22 at the
Southfield Marriott.
The Department of Michi-
gan and Ladies Auxiliary of
the Jewish War Veterans will
host this Golden Anniversary
Convention. An Oneg Shab-
bat will be held 7:30 p.m.
June 21 at the Jewish War
Veterans Memorial Building.
City and state dignitaries and
leaders of many allied
veteran groups will attend.
Sabbath services, honoring
Jewish War Veterans, will be
held 9 a.m. June 22 at Con-
gregation Beth Achim.
A seminar, explaining
veterans' and widows'
benefits, will be held 2-4 p.m.
June 22 at the Marriott
Hotel; there is no charge.
A banquet honoring the
department commander, Ely
Katz, and the department
president, Martha Haupt-
man, will be held June 22 at
the Marriott Hotel. Na-
tional Commander Alfred
Schwartz will speak. There
will be a dinner charge. The
convention will take place
June 23 at the hotel following
memorial services.
