ed the bar, and now works for
the Riley and Rummel law of-
fices . . . Robert went to
University of Michigan for his
degree in history and is
presently at Wayne State
University Law School .. .

Following in the footsteps of
dad Bernie Hartstein,
daughter Beth has made a
big success out of designing
dolls . . . Her numbered,
limited editions are collec-
tors' items . . . Bernie used to
sell carnival items and got
the idea of designing dolls
while in Japan . . . Now 28,
Beth started designing them
when she was only 6-years-old
. . . and still retains the same
office Bernie had over 20
years ago in Los Angeles'
Chinatown after moving
there from Detroit.
She was called the "USO
Sweetheart" years back as a
cute little 5-year-old enter-
taining the boys in service
who enjoyed her singing and
dancing . . . Today, Marilyn
Gelb as Marilyn Hartz lives
in Boca Raton, Fla., and ac-
cording to many, hasn't lost
her entertaining touch .. .
Marilyn's mother, Ruth
Dermer Gursky, and Peggy
Dermer Miller used to do a lot
of entertaining themselves
. . . Ruth moved to Del Ray,
Fla., where she now teaches
dancing.
It was down memory lane
for Richard and Bobbie Hartz,
Steve's parents, and Arnold
and Marlene Slutzky . . .
Back about 25 years ago to
when the four went camping
at Higgins Lake . . . Bobbie
and Richard were the
campers . . . and Arnold and
Marlene had never camped
out before . . . Off they went
to rough it in a borrowed tent
. . . In a 2-person sailboat
were Bobbie and Richard
when the wind died complete-
ly, stranding them helplessly
in the middle of the lake ..
Richard stood up in the boat
and frantically waved his
shirt yelling for help . . . Ar-
nold faked swimming while
coming out to the boat .. .
Richard was ever so grateful
for his saving their lives .. .
But Bobbie busted out
laughing . . . as Arnold stood
up . . . with the water up just
above his knees.
After the Variety Club
Celebrity Ball, it was a bit
late dropping in at Morel's on
Telegraph where Steve and
Lori said "I Do" for Rabbi M.
Robert Syme . . . Things had
quieted down but were still
perking a bit . . . Catering gal
supreme Donna Rosen, one of
the best, made sure we wish-
ed Steve and Lori luck by hav-
ing some of their wedding
cake . . . and the band
