relevance of Torah study and Jewish
observance.

Gloria Ellis heads the slate
of officers of Congregation
Beth Shalom installed at a
dinner at the synagogue.
Other newly elected officers
are: vice presidents Sy
Finkelstein, Art Langer,
Sharon Alterman, Richard
Polk; Marc Dobrowitsky,
treasurer; and Mark Gold-
smith, secretary.
Trustees are: Randy David-
son, Jerry Efros, Jeffrey Ellis,
Richard Emmer, Paul Levine,
Robert Pliskow, Marylyn
Sternberg and Michael Trotz.
Mrs. Ellis served as ex-
ecutive vice president and
secretary and edited the
synagogue newsletter. She is
a member of the sisterhood of
Congregation Beth Shalom.
She is a past president of Ivan
S. Bloch Chapter, B'nai B'rith
Women and of the B'nai
B'rith Women's Council of
Metropolitan Detroit. She
served as the first chair of
Midwest Region, B'nai B'rith
Women, and was elected to
the executive board, B'nai
B'rith Women.
She is a past chairman of
Michigan Region BBYO.

June 21.
President Bea Sacks will
continue her term. Other of-
ficers to be installed are vice

Outline of Curriculum

1. HEBREW: Structured course on Hebrew
Alphabet and reading Hebrew.
2. CHUMASH: Explore the "world's best
seller' — The Written Torah, the source of all
subsequent Torah literature.
3. TALMUD: Open the pages of the Gemora
and join Rabbi Steinsaltz in this vast composite
of practical law, logical reasoning, analytical
argumentation and moralistic teaching.
4. MITZVOT: A study of precepts, command-
ments, and customs known as Halacha. This
course offers an opportunity to learn the how,
what and where of Practical Judaism.
5. TEFILLAH: An in-depth study and analysis
of the daily prayerbook, the Siddur.
6. KABALLAH: Chassidus — the philosophical
and mystical aspect of Torah as presented by
Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi in his monumen-
tal work, the Tanya.
7. Women in the Torah: An analysis of the
Torah view of women, and the primary female
role models in Judaism.
Participation is open to all those with limited, minimal
or no background in Jewish studies as well as those
with previous Jewish studies experience.
