Music Festival

The Meadow Brook Music
Festival will open its 28th
season 8 p.m. June 14.
Historian Shelby Foote will
narrate Copland's Lincoln
Portrait with the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra, Conductor
Neeme Jarve directing. Mr.
Foote was the principal on-
camera commentator for
PBS-TV's "Civil War" series.
Music by Ives and Dvorak
will complete the program.
Mr. Foote will repeat Lin-
coln Portrait June 16; Mr.
Jarve will conduct the DSO in
Schuman and Sibelius, plus
the Copland.
Ann Arbor's twin brother
musicians Gemini and The
Good Mischief Band will pre-
sent an all new children's
show 11 a.m. June 15. The
Meadow Brook program will
feature sing-alongs and
stories of childhood and grow-
ing up.
Indigo Girls, winner of the
1989 Grammy for "Best Con-
temporary Folk Group," with
special guest Ellen James
Society, will perform 8 p.m.
June 15.
All Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra classical concerts are
part of the Chrysler Concert
Series which are made possi-
ble by the Chrysler Corpora-
tion Fund.
Most evening concerts are
in the Baldwin Pavilion with
the festival grounds opening
at 6 p.m. Entrances to
Meadow Brook are on Walton
Boulevard and Adams Road.

Township Library
Teen Program

Bloomfield Township Public
Library will host a reading
club for teens in grades 8, 9
and 10 7:30-9 p.m. June 19,
July 10 and 24.
There will be discussion
groups to stimulate kids to
talk and think and get to
know each other. Two of the
books selected are: Eva, by
Peter Dickinson, about a girl
who learns to survive in the
body of a chimpanzee, and
Heartbeat, a love story about
loyalty and friendship. The
third book will be announced
later.
