"I look at the artist as a product," he says. "It has to be the best product and it has to be real. You're not out there to fool anybody." In that vein, Mr. McCall boasts a resume quite unlike most others. It includes the obligatory occupation and current projects, but it also lists his favorite publica- tions (everything from Essence to Hadassah), his idols (his parents) and a list of things he's never done, which includes visiting Africa and Israel. Mr. McCall sold one work from "Tribute to the Jewish People" to Yeshiva Universi- ty, and produced a limited edi- tion china plate which he gave to former Prime Minis- ter Golda Mein He plans to travel to Europe to present the "Tribute" series to various Jewish community centers damaged during World War II. A number of Jewish organ- izations own his work. Often, Mr. McCall will ar- range that one-third of the purchase price goes to chari- ty. The artist's favorite charity is assisting battered women, though he also has contributed to the Chabad House in Las Vegas, where he owns a condominium, and to the America-Israel Friendship House. Mr. McCall prefers pain- ting in the evening in his Brooklyn studio. Usually, he listens to music while he works. While sketching the "Tribute to the Jewish Peo- ple," Gershwin was a favor- ite. Mr. McCall works in pastel, watercolors and something called Vaseline, about which he refuses to di- vulge details. "I can't tell you the technique," he says. As a final touch, the artist puts a title to each drawing. The word "tradition" features prominently in a number of the titles, though there are a few less conven- tional, too, like "If the Blues Was Whiskey I'd Be Drunk All the Time." With a staff of three to handle administration and public relations, Mr. McCall says his works include "the finest matting, the finest glass —everything is the best." A limited edition series, "A Tribute to the Jewish People" comprises originals, prints, posters, figurines and collectibles. E Piano Students In Concert The piano students of Jocelyn Krieger will perform in concert 2 p.m. June 9 at Prentis Manor Jewish Home for Aged. Jocelyn Krieger The Music Minors, a children's chorus ages 5-7, will open the program. A feature will be the students' musical tribute to composers of Afro-American and Jewish heritage entitled "Songs of My People." Southfield performers are: Sandra Cohen, Estee Eisenberg, Brandalyn Fulton, Deena Kresch, Naomi and
