Meeting with others. Though
they "prophesied" with the
others, Moses is not threaten-
ed by, nor of, them. He has
risen to this challenge and
demonstrated once again his
greatness for he would share
with all, "that the Lord's peo-
ple were prophets . . ."
In the final incident in the
parsha, we see that Miriam
speaks evil gossip — lashon
harah — against the wife of
Moses. It was the intention of
Miriam to downgrade Moses
himself and to damage him in
the eyes of others.
Today, when thousands of
Soviet Jews are arriving in
the United States and Israel
to begin their lives anew, it is
the role of the established
Jewish community to in-
tegrate them into our Jewish
society. We must be vigilant
that we neither downgrade
these new Americans nor
negatively influence their ac-
ceptance into our society.
Our attitudes and words
will have great bearing on the
way these families are able to
cope with their new-found
freedom, with reference both
to Judaism and secular life.
Our actions and attitudes
have profound ramifications
as we touch all those we meet.
We must work to demonstrate
the positive in our words and
deeds. Let us be encouraged
with praise and kind feelings
that our lives will be the ex-
ample for future genera-

Plans Last Service

Active Seniors Come Home To:

Closing services in the
building that has housed the
Temple Beth Jacob congrega-
tion for almost 40 years have
been set for 8 p.m. June 7.
The building, located at 79
Elizabeth Lake Road, has
been sold to another religious
group. Future activities will
be held in members' homes.
Guest rabbi for the final
Sabbath service will be David
Hachen, director of the Nor-
theast Lakes Council of the
Union of American Hebrew
Congregations.
Also speaking will be
Rebecca Arnkoff Freedman,
Steven Fish and Jordon
Schreier, who will discuss
their memories of the temple
over the years. Other past
presidents are scheduled to
participate.
