Dance . . . cocktails 6 p.m. and

orchestra.
MERGER OF Vineyards
and Taste of Seasons com-
bines Ron Asmar's cafe
restaurant of tables inside
and outside with much cater-
ing know-how by Grace Crowl
and her staff . . . The new
name, Vineyard's Taste of
Seasons, is at Ron's locale on
Northwestern between Mid-
dlebelt and 14 Mile . . . Now
comes another popular move
. . . the addition of Shirlee
Bloom with her homemade
traditional Jewish dishes for
both carry-out and dining in.
SHE VOWED never to
make records again because
of the change in the music in-
dustry which Helen Reddy
believes is not targeting discs
for the audiences of many of
the mainstream performers of
her kind . . . But Helen, now
appearing a‘t the Top Hat in
Windsor through tomorrow
evening, tells about formation
of her own record label with
a first album produced under
the title Feel So Young for her
Helen Reddy, Inc. . . . and ex-
pects most of the buyers to be
baby boomers.
Helen reflected between
shows at the Top Hat on hear-
ing radio performances of her
"oldies" and said, "It's like
seeing a photograph of myself
in a shag haircut and bell bot-
tom pants; it's time for my au-
dience to see and hear me as
I am today." . . . In Feel So
Young, Helen delivers 10
tunes with a new sound and
style the popular songstress
calls "Helen Reddy in the
90s."
JEWELRY DEPT . . . A
couple of staffers at The
Jewish News have that sort of
glow these days . . . Feature
writer Susan Grant and
Larry Brohman will do the
middle-aisle scene June 1
(time for both to begin coun-
ting the days and hours) .. .
Gayle Schmidt, composing
room stalwart, and Lorenzo
Baldi, are engaged for a
September 1992 "I Do"
session.
AND WINNERS in Apple-
gate Square's May Sale con-
test . . . Ethel Handelsman, a
day at Mira Linder's Spa in
the City; Nancy Boyer, dinner

ty Kitz, an 8x10 photo

CONGRATS . . . to An-
nette and Al Landy, former
Detroiters, now living in
Plantation, Fla. . . . on their
60th anniversary . . . Annette
and Al were recently in town
for the wedding of nephew Dr.

Alan Silverman, son of Ray-
mond and Nancy Silverman.
NOW COMES a fund-
raiser where, if you don't play
golf, at least there are other
games to play . . . It's the first
annual Golf and Games
Outing by Michigan Region of
Women's American ORT,
June 3, at Bogie Lake Coun-
try Club off Commerce Road

jongg, bridge or Scrabble .. .

HEALTH DEPT. . . . Re-
cent entry into the retail and
food-service "Good For You"
market are the new Garden
Gourmet entrees, a meatless
alternative being distributed
by Les Kleinman and his
Morris Kosher Poultry.
Big thing is that the blend
of fresh legumes, whole grain,
natural herbs and spices in
the frozen Garden Gourmets
were developed with the one
ingredient lacking until now
in meat alternatives . . . good
taste.
" There's none of that un-
satisfying "spongy" or
"overseasoned" aftertaste
that so many other natural
foods leave you with . . . Also,
no artificial colors, flavors,
preservatives or MSG . . . It
has the texture and "bite" of
meat but without meat's
saturated animal fat and
cholesterol.
BLOOD DRIVE is tomor-
row at Ritz Carlton Dear-
born's Presidential Ballroom,

LOOKING BACK On Col-
umns Of Yesteryears .. .
JUNE 6, 1975 . . . "Story
told by Mel Taubman bears
out fact that kids know more
about life nowadays than we
think they do . . . His little
daughter, Harriet, was puzzl-
ed as to her origin . . . 'How'd
I get here, Mommy?' she ask-
ed Betty Taubman . . . 'God
sent you dear,' said Betty, us-
ing the well-worn evasion .. .
`And did God send you, too,
Mommy?' was the next ques-
tion . . . to which Betty again
said yes . . . 'And grandma
and great-grandma, too?'
Again the answer was yes .. .
Little Harriet shook her head
dubiously . . . 'Then you mean
to tell me, Mommy, that there
have been no sex relations in
this family for over 200
years?' " El
