The Hebrew word sherut means service. Project Sherut provides
in-kind goods and services to community service organizations. Each
week, we will publish requests for needed items.
Persons interested in helping to meet these needs should
contact Miriam lmerman at The Jewish Community Council at

On Temporary Shelter (COTS)
provides emergency shelter,
food, clothing and social ser-
vices to the homeless. COTS
needs disposable diapers,
baby bottles, baby rash oint-
ment, children's socks,
children's new underwear, new
bras, pillows and pillowcases,
toothbrushes, toothpaste, food,
especially infant food, a large
food mixer and small paper-
back dictionaries.

Center of Metropolitan Detroit
addresses fair housing issues
in the Detroit metropolitan
area, seeking to assure equal
access to housing without
discrimination based on race,
sex, color, religion, national
origin, marital or handicapped
status. Fair Housing Center
needs volunteers for complaint
investigations and research,
office work to prepare
materials for attorneys, com-
puters and associated hard-
ware and software, an electric
typewriter, letter and legal-size
file drawers, a fax machine and
a desktop size paper folding
machine.

Yad Ezra is a food pantry ser-
ving low-income members of
the Jewish community. Since
opening its doors in February,
1990, Yad Ezra has dispensed
over 100,000 pounds of food.
Yad Ezra needs a typewriter

fice and/or warehouse space
(approximately 1,500 sq. ft.)

Help Against Violent Eriaxinters Now
HAVEN
HAVEN, Oakland County Counseling Agency and shelter
for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, has schedul-
ed orientations for prospective volunteers in June.
Volunteers are needed as first response advocates to pro-
vide crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault and
domestic violence. Volunteers are also needed to work the crisis
line at the shelter which is located in the Pontiac area.
HAVEN has a number of other programs in which women
and men volunteer their time. For further information about
volunteer opportunities, contact Jane Balousek at 334-1284.

WDET's bi-annual on-air fun-
draisers, fill out pledge forms,

munity Mental Health offers
psychiatric, psychological,
social work, case manage-
ment, and other mental health
services to the emotionally and
mentally ill. It serves an adult
population that is . often
characterized by weak family
networks, substance abuse,
unemployment, homeless-
ness, and socioeconomic
deprivation. Services are pro-
vided to reduce the incidence,
intensity, and dysfunction com-
monly associated with mental
illness through outpatient, par-
tial hospitalization, assertive
community treatment, and
case management programs.
Volunteers are needed to
assist administrators, clinical,
clerical, and other support staff
with various duties. Volunteers
with backgrounds in physical,
music, and occupational
therapy, social work, and
especially nursing are needed.
Skills needed:
— Clinical record review, com-
puter key entry, data pro-
cessing, and medical
records filing, distributions
and notations.
— Secretarial/Receptionist
skills such as typing,
answering phones
— Research and statistical
skills

JEWISH NEWS ON TAPE, a new project that will make weekly copies of the newspaper available
on cassette tapes for the visually impaired and disabled.
The project is brought to the community courtesy of the National Council of Jewish Women, its Hakol
branch, The Jewish News, and the National Reading Library for the Blind. Tapes will be distributed
through the National Reading Library for the Blind in Farmington Hills, which estimates it has hun-
dreds of Jewish subscribers. Persons in need of this service may request copies through NCJW.
Readers are needed for Thursday evenings and Friday mornings. Time commitment is flexible. In-
terested volunteers may contact Ruth Littmann or Janelle Miller at the NCJW office, 258-6000.
