Welfare Federation
Israeli Missions

The Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion will sponsor an informa-
tional meeting about 1991
summer family missions to
Israel 7:30 p.m. May 22 at the
home of Dr. Mark and Linee
Diem.
Sponsored nationally by the
United Jewish Appeal and
locally by Federation, each
mission offers a complete pro-
gram for families with
children age 7 and older.
• Three trips will be offered:
June 23-July 3, June 30-July
10 and July 28 Aug. 7.
Mission-goers will visit ar-
cheological and historic sites
and learn about modern
Israel. Participants will be
hosted by Israeli families. In
addition, for those celebrating
their bar or bat mitzvah,
there will be a ceremony atop
Masada.
Dennis and Linda Kayes
will lead the mission leaving
June 30, and Dr. and Mrs.
Diem will lead the July 28
trip.
Cost of the mission includes
accommodations at five-star
hotels, round-trip airfare from
New York and most meals.

Detroit ZOA
Israel Convention

A Detroit area delegation
will attend the Zionist
Organization of America's na-
tional convention in Israel
June 27-July 4.
A briefing and orientation
session for prospective
delegates and other in-
terested persons will be held
the evening of June 30 with
Sidney Silverman, national
president of ZOA, as speaker.
Mr. Silverman will be retur-
ning from Israel May 25 after
conferring with Israel govern-
ment leaders about Secretary
of State Baker's latest peace-
mission to the Jewish State
and finalizing convention
arrangements.
The convention program
will include an opening
Melaveh Malka reception
with Jerusalem's Mayor Ted-
dy Kollek, a dinner with
Prime Minister Yitzhak
Shamir, participation in a
swearing-in ceremony of the
Israel Defense Forces at
Masada, a block-party in Tel
Aviv with the city's Mayor
Shlomo Lahat, a visit with
Russian and Ethiopian olim
at absorption centers and a
4th of July celebration.
