Reform Synagogues
Parlor Meetings

Allan B. Goldman, who is
chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the Union of
American Hebrew Congrega-
tions, will be the featured
speaker at parlor meetings
May 20 for Congregations
Temple Israel, Temple Shir
Shalom and Temple Kol Ami,
and May 21 for Temple Beth
El, Temple Emanu-El, Tem-
ple Beth Isaac, Temple Beth
Jacob and Congregation Shir
Tikvah. These meetings are
held in conjunction with the
Fund for Reform Judaism din-
ner, hosted this year by Tem-
ple Beth El on June 6.
The purpose of the parlor
meeting is to raise funds prior
to the dinner, since there will
be no direct solicitation at
that time. The FRJ dinner an-
nually honors outstanding
members from the par-
ticipating congregations of
the Metropolitan Detroit
Federation of Reform
Synagogues.
Allan Goldman, a senior
partner in the law firm of
Wyman, Bautzer, Kuchel and
Silbert, is active in a variety
of communal and civic con-
. cerns. He is a member of the
Board of Overseers at the
L.A. campus of the Hebrew
Union College - Jewish In-
stitute of Religion, president
of the Council of Synagogue
Associations of Greater L.A.
and has served as chairman
of the synagogue funding
committee of the Jewish
Federation - Council of
Greater L.A., He is also a
member of the Board of
Governors of the HUC-JIR.

Adat Shalom Synagogue
will hold a bat mitzvah
ceremony 9 a.m. Shavuot,
May 19, for six adult
members of the congregation,
followed by a kiddush
reception.
Those becoming b'not mitz-
vah are: Jane Anchill, Adrea
Benkoff, Celia Lubetsky, Teri
Muskovitz, Gerrie Sollish and
Beverly Woronoff.
The class will twin its
celebration with Anna
Klemerg, a Soviet refusenik
who, since 1989, has been
denied permission to join her
family in Israel.
Also participating in the
bat mitzvah service will be
eight members of the con-
gregation, who will read the
Book of Ruth. They are: Nan-
cy Handelman, Laurel A.
