JARC Gives Award To Anthony Shriver Anthony Kennedy Shriver will receive the Humani- tarian Award from JARC, a Jewish association for resi- dential care 8 p.m. May 21 at the organization's annual meeting to be held at Temple Beth El. There is no charge. Mr. Shriver will be honored as founder and president of Best Buddies, the nation's first unified recreational and social program for college students and persons with mental retardation. Officers and directors to be voted upon at the meeting in- clude Cheryl Guyer, presi- dent; Joel Shere, president elect; Arthur Horwitz, Bar- bara Nusbaum and Michael Pitt, vice presidents; Nora Barron, secretary; Eugene Mondry, treasurer. Anthony Shriver Best Buddies, established when Anthony Shriver was a senior at Georgetown Univer- sity four years ago, is now found on 67 campuses in 22 states, and includes 1,100 col- lege student volunteers mat- ched with 1,100 members with mental retardation. Its mission is to provide oppor- tunities for the college students and persons with mental retardation to become friends. JARC, a non-profit agency serving men and women with developmental disabilities, operates 13 group homes in southern Oakland county, as well as two independent liv- ing programs.
