JVS 50th From Leningrad to Odessa, Amsterdam to Athens, Bordeaux to Tel Aviv, Congregation Shaarey Zedek recently turned into a small world when 300 patrons table-hopped from city to city to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jewish Vocational Service. Musicians dressed in eth- nic costumes played folk songs, and the Bill Meyers Orchestra played Jewish and Russian music. Food, too, came from all over the world. Some dined at the Ellis Island Soup Kit- chen. Others opted for grill- ed vegetables, meat and fish from the American Bar and Grill; or falafel, Israeli cold fruit soup and tabbouleh from the Middle East; and chicken paprikash and Hungarian vegetable soup from Eastern Europe.
