My family comes first. - "But handball helped me to stay alive. And my wife understands that. She goes along with it wholeheartedly. We never have any problems about my handball playing. They have four grand- children. The Rotts are also business partners as co-owners of David's Office Supply and Furniture Company in Birm- ingham. They opened the business in the tumultuous year following their marriage. That first year also marked the discovery of Rott's first cancer, which resulted in his losing a kidney. So, after three bouts with cancer, the knee injuries and assorted aches and pains, how does Rott feel today? "I feel great," he responds. "How should I feel? What should be bad? It's good in America. I feel fine; I have no problems." Rott then notes that, after returning the previous day from a trip to Disney World with two of his grandchildren, "My calves are killing me because I'm not used to that constant walking . . . They're sore, the calves, but so what? I was on a Stairmaster today for 15 minutes and I rode a bicycle for six or seven minutes, plus some Nautilus, plus some weightlifting. "So what, they're sore. You overcome it. It'll get better. . ❑ Sports Stars Inducted Into B'nai B'rith Hall Washington, D.C. - Star athletes, franchise owners and journalists will be among the sports legends inducted into the B'nai B'rith American Jewish "Sports Hall of Fame," at a dinner May 16 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington, D.C.
