Family Mission
Meeting May 22

An informational meeting
about three summer family
missions to Israel will take
place 7:30 p.m. May 22 in the
home of Dr. Mark and Linee
Diem.
Sponsored nationally by the
United Jewish Appeal and
locally by the Jewish Welfare
Federation, each family mis-
sion offers a complete pro-
gram for families with
children age 7 and older.
Mission-goers will go on an
archeological dig, float on the
Jordan River and ascend the
Golan Heights. They also will
visit an Israeli army base, Jaf-
fa, Safed and Jerusalem, in-
cluding the. Old City and the
Western Wall. For those
celebrating their bar or bat
mitzvah, there will be a
special ceremony atop
Masada to commemorate the
event. In addition, par-
ticipants will be treated to
home hospitality by Israeli
families.
Cost of the mission includes
accommodations at five-star
hotels, round-trip airfare from
New York and most meals.

Detroiters of all ages and in-
terests through the Israel
Desk of the Jewish Welfare
Federation, the community's
central resource on Israel pro-
grams and travel.
The Israel Desk offers infor-
mation on transportation, ac-
commodations and financial
assistance for Israel travel
and study.
Directed by Sivan Maas, the
community shlicha, the Israel
Desk has a list of locally and
nationally sponsored travel,
work and study opportunities.
Among them are youth and
family trips and tours; high
school and university pro-
grams; and kibbutz and direct
service projects for profes-
sionals and others who have
time and skills to offer.
Scholarships are available
from congregations, com-
munity, youth and national
organizations for young peo-
ple to travel to Israel on
educational or service
programs.
