FREE OFFER! A tribute card is one of the most thoughtful ways to honor a person and is a gift that enhances the lives of Jewish children, the elderly and families in need of J.F.S. services. Jewish Family Service has created a new and improved Tribute Card Program. The new TRIBUTE ORDER BOOKS are now available. With the new convenient system, the donor just fills in a coupon in the Tribute Order Book and attaches a handy mailing label (supplied in the book) to their return envelope. The donor mails the tribute order coupon with his/her contribution to Jewish Family Service, and a Tribute Card is mailed immedi- ately. The minimum tribute donation remains only $5.00 per card. Jewish Family Service, 24123 Greenfield Road Southfield, MI 48075, Attn.:LH RESETTLEMENT SERVICE MOVES WAREHOUSE Resettlement Service has relocated its warehouse for donated furniture and household goods to the Northland Mall, two doors down from Kerby's Koney Island, near Valet Parking. The new location is more accessible to the New American families who pick up the donations and is more convenient for the donors who can now drop off their donations at the street level location. The new larger site made available through the generosity of Northland Mall, will allow for more storage of furniture and household goods, which are still very much in need. "We are grateful to Kathy O'Mal- ley and Nimrod Rosenthal of North- land Mall Management who made the arrangements, for making this space available to us," said Bernard Stoll- man, President of Resettlement Service. A large number of refugees from the Soviet Union are expected to resettle in the Detroit area over the summer. We are concerned because drop-off donations have decreased and our supplies in the warehouse are extremely low. We desperately need SAMUEL LERNER ENDOWMENT FUND The Jewish Family Service Board has created an endowment fund to honor Samuel Lerner, who retired as Executive Director in April, 1989. The fund provides scholarships for Clinical Social Workers to attend conferences and special training that focuses on the treatment of children. The fund allows the agency to offer professional development programs to staff in an era of tight spending. The J.F.S. Board and others generously contributed over $22,000 to the Samuel Lerner Endowment Fund, that generates an income just under $2,000 a year. This past year awards were made to Ann Mintzer, M.S.W., Clinical Supervisor, and to Clinical Social Workers Barbara Eisenberg, M.S.W., Judith Shewach- Steven- son, M.S.W., and Lorraine Lerner, M.S.W. to attend conferences. • donations of furniture in good condi- tion to help these families get started in this new community," said Alan Goodman, Executive Director. The warehouse is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 to 2 or by appointment. Sandra Hyman, Director of Reset- tlement Service, has worked with a group of dedicated volunteers under the leadership of Herb Schein to get this program off the ground. "We would like to be open more hours, now that we have the flexibil- ity, but we need more volunteers to work in the warehouse," said Hyman. Resettlement Service offers free pick-up service for furniture that is too large for the donor to deliver to the warehouse. For more information about the warehouse or free pick-up service, please call Bronya Spektor at 559- 4566. ■ WHAT THE WAREHOUSE NEEDS FOR NEW AMERICANS FROM A TO Z Appliances Blankets Clocks Dishes Egg Beater and other kitchen utensils Furniture Games (for children) Hand Tools Irons Judaica Knives LAMPS! JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE NAME FUNDS Jewish Family Service has estab- lished a new Name Fund Program to help fund important support pro- grams to benefit the Jewish commu- nity. A donor may establish a name fund in his family's name or as a memorial to a loved one. The name funds will support such programs as Group Apartments for the Elderly, the Child Abuse Prevention Pro- gram, Resettlement Service and other services in need of additional funding. The benefits of the Name Fund Program includes: - 100 tribute cards that the donor may send from the fund each year. - Listing all tributes made to the name fund in the J.F.S. Insider. - The opportunity for friends and family to make gifts to the established name fund of the donor. For additional information about creating a J.F.S. Name Fund, please call Louise Hacker at 559-1500. ■ PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE by John Jacobs During the past year in office, I am more convinced than ever of the com- mitment and dedication of the Jewish Family Service staff to provide the highest quality counseling in the field. Our mission is to serve the entire Jewish community irrespective of income level. Our quality counseling and support services are among the best of any provider in our area. In fact, we are known nationally and recognized for our group therapy programs and our innovative treatment approaches, as exemplified by our Child Abuse Prevention Program. The agency is accredited by the Council of Accreditation and in many ways far exceeds the requirements of this organization. We encourage and support our workers to offer the highest standards of practice. We provide post degree training and supervision for staff to further develop and enhance their skills in individual, family and group practice. Our branch office in West Bloom- field has surpassed our expectations and is responding to the needs of the Jewish population in the area. I am proud to be associated with Jewish Family Service and with the many men and women who are commit- ted to maintaining its outstanding services and continued concern for the welfare of our community. ■
