Tissue Paper and Clothes

We are proud of the artful cleaning and the
fine finish our pressing gives your clothes. But
nothing ruins our work like hanging on a
hanger in a crowded closet. So we stuff each
garment with tissue paper to help keep the fine
pressed finish. We stuff the sleeves, body and
collar with tissue paper so that the garment
will be ready to go when you are.

FRIDAY, MAY 3, 1991

Tami earned a solo in the
ice show and will play the
tooth fairy. She is used to the
spotlight, appearing recently
on "Get the Picture," a
children's game show on
Nickelodeon. The Tarnow
family joined Tami in Orlan-
do, Fla., for the taping.
The girls devote 10-15 hours
per week to skating. Tami in
particular has found time
management difficult be-
cause of bat mitzvah lessons.
In addition to school and
skating, the girls attend
Hebrew class on Wednesday
and Sunday school at West
Bloomfield's Temple Shir
Shalom.
Tami would like to compete
in the Olympics in pairs
skating, but the girls say it is
hard to find a good partner.
"There are a lot more girls
in figure skating because
most of the boys go into
hockey instead," Robyn said.
The lone non-skater in the
family is their mother, Kathy,
who tried to skate with Tami
but decided against making it
a hobby. "It's always nice to
sit in the crowd, watch the
children and appreciate their
acomplishments," she said.
Ice skating isn't the only
hobby the family share. When
time permits, the Tarnows
like to clown around. "We all
have clown outfits and clown
names," says Kathy, also
known as "Pickles." The Tar-
now girls have performed at
parties and in local parades.
In addition, the Tarnows
have been active at Temple
Shir Shalom and previously
at Temple Beth El. They have
also been busy with student
exchange programs, and have
hosted students from the
Soviet Union, Brazil and
Israel.
"We took the two Israeli
students on the ice and they
didn't adjust too well," Kathy
said. During the recent Per-
sian Gulf war, the Tarnows
talked frequently with their
former Israeli guests.

Skating has also taken the
Tarnows to Sweden, Finland,
Denmark and around the
United States.
Their interest in skating
developed a new twist when
Bob met Igor Shpilband and
Vladimir Levchenkov, two
skaters who defected last year
from the Soviet Union. Both
men will appear in the
Berkley Ice Show. They were
members of the Soviet Na-
tional Team and were also
featured in professional
shows, including Torvill and
Dean, the Russian All Stars
and Moscow on Ice.
"They came to one of our
seders during Passover and
Igor, whose father was
Jewish, was surprised that we
could buy matzah at the shop-
ping centers," Bob said. "In
the Soviet Union, you could
only get matzah through the
synagogues."

Veteran Players
Win Three Titles
A group of Jewish basket-
ball veterans completed a
rare triple this year in area
competition.
Mel Fink, Randy Golden,
Steve Lesser, Roger Lesser
and Steve Rosen formed the
nucleus of teams which won
basketball championships in
the Jewish Community
Center's 4-on-4 and Honey
Berris leagues, and in the
B'nai B'rith league.
The average age of the
players is in the 40s and
they have been playing
together for 10-12 years. The
group has won the last two
Honey Berris championships
and had a string of eight
consecutive B'nai B'rith
Class A league champion-
ships as the Detroit 1 team.
