Cookbook
Wins Prize

New York (JTA) — Spice

and Spirit: The Complete
Kosher Jewish Cookbook,
published by the Lubavitch
Women's Club in Brooklyn,
has won third prize in the
national Tabasco Commun-
ity Cookbook Awards com-
petition.
The cookbook was one of
12 books singled out for
awards by a panel of nation-
ally recognized cooking au-
thorities. More than 150 en-
tries from across the country
were submitted for the corn-
petition, which was open to
community cookbooks
published by non-profit
groups in 1989 and 1990.
Spice and Spirit contains
more than 800 recipes for
kosher dishes subinitted by
Chabad communities
worldwide, along with ex-
tensive narratives on holi-
day and custom observances.
The cookbook, third in the
Kosher Living Classics
series published by the
Lubavitch Women's Club, is
used by 1,000 Chabad-
Lubavitch centers
worldwide to teach kosher
cooking, kashrut observance
and Jewish customs.
First place in the national
competition went to From a
Lighthouse Window,
published by the
Chesapeake Bay Maritime
Museum. Second place was
captured by Gracious
Goodness: A Taste of Mem-
phis from the Memphis
Symphony League.
