IDF Foils
Third Attack

Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli
soldiers shot and severely
wounded an armed intruder
from Jordan whom they en-
countered near the Allenby
Bridge over the Jordan
River.
The gunman, who opened
fire on an Israel Defense
Force patrol when challeng-
ed, was the third infiltrator
from Jordan to be killed or
captured in Israel in a 72-
hour period .
While the latest infiltrator
from Jordan was being
treated by a field medic and
helicoptered to a hospital,
other IDF units were con-
ducting a massive search in
the Beit She'an Valley, 50
miles to the north.
They were combing the
area for any additional in-
truders who might be at
large after an infiltrator
fatally shot 32-year-old Gi-
deon Ezra of Kibbutz Neveh
Ur on April 17 and wounded
three other kibbutz mem-
bers before he was cornered
and shot.
Another gunman seriously
wounded an IDF soldier
from ambush near Neveh Ur
before he was killed on the
night of April 15.

New Chapel
At Camp David

New York (JTA) — Repre-
sentatives of five religious
denominations dedicated the
newly completed chapel at
the Camp David presidential
retreat in Maryland at a
ceremony attended by Presi-
dent and Barbara Bush.
The chapel, the first per-
manent site of worship at
the 49-year-old Camp David,
was constructed with private
donations from Jews and
Christians.
Rabbi A. James Rudin, di-
rector of interreligious af-
fairs for the American Jew-
ish Committee, is the sole
Jewish member of the 15-
person chapel board.
At the conclusion of the
dedication ceremony, Rabbi
Rudin stood and recited the
Birkat Cohanim, Judaism's
priestly benediction. Also at-
tending the ceremony were
Catholic, Episcopalian,
Greek Orthodox and
Methodist leaders.
A Torah scroll and Jewish
prayerbooks have been do-
nated by the Jewish
Chaplains Council, a project
of the Jewish Community
Centers of North America.
The ark was created by Rab-
bi Rudin's late father and his
sister-in-law.
