Set For Solidarity Day

Edythe Jackier will be the
host. There is an admission
fee.
Food will be available
throughout the day, and
music will highlight the
afternoon's activities.
Bus transportation for the
walk will be offered at a small
charge from the Jimmy Pren-
tis Morris Jewish Center in
Oak Park and from the
United Hebrew Schools
building in Southfield.
The day is co-sponsored by
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion, Jewish Community
Center and Israel In-
dependence Day Committee.
Pre-registration for the
walk is requested. To register
for the walk or bus transpor-
tation, call Scott Mittelman,

There will be activities for
all ages after the Walk for
Israel on May 5.
The day, celebrating Israel's
43rd anniversary of state-
hood, will begin with walk
registration at 10:45 a.m.
Walkers will leave from the
Jewish Community Campus
in West Bloomfield at 11:30
a.m. The 3.5-mile route will
include a rest stop with
refreshments at Temple
Israel.
At 12:30 p.m. at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community
Center, there will be crafts, a
petting farm sponsored by
Hadassah and pony rides
sponsored by the Fresh Air
Society. Singer Julie Auer-
bach of Cleveland will per-
form in a family concert spon-
sored by Jewish Experiences
For Families at 2:30 p.m.
The B'nai B'rith Youth
Organization basketball tour-
nament semi-finals will take
place at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The film Beyond the Walls
will be shown for teens at
noon, followed at 2 p.m. by a
discussion with screenwriter
Eran Pries. The movie was
nominated in the Best
Foreign Film category at the
1984 Academy Awards.
An Israel trade and travel
fair, featuring Israel-produced
foods and products, will begin
at noon. Among the partici-
pating companies are Jeru-
salem Candles, Telrad Corn-
munications, Production Tool,
Farmer Jack and the Toy Box.
Israel-grown flowers and
copies of the Jerusalem
Reporter will be available.
Many travel agents and
airlines will be represented at
the travel show, coordinated
by the Jewish Community
Council.
The Readers Theater will
present a program of stories
by Bertolt Brecht, Arthur
Miller and Bernard Malamud
as well as Chelm tales at 3:30

Up to
one-third of recent immi-
grants from the Soviet
Union want to leave Israel,
mainly because of economic
difficulties that stem from
the lack of jobs, according to
the Israeli daily Ma'ariv.
The newspaper attributed
its information to voluntary
Soviet immigrant aid
associations.
It reported April 14 that
one-third of the 4,500 Soviet
immigrants in the small
Galilee town of Carmiel are
contemplating leaving, their
favored destination being
Canada.
