The academic program will include: "World Crisis: Then and Now," an investigation of the different responses of the world to Hitler in 1938 and to Saddam Hussein in 1990; "British Writing about World War II," an exploration of the attitudes of British authors toward the rise of Nazi Ger- many; and the "Three Faces of Jerusalem," a multi-media presentation about the city's history, monuments and religions. The instructors include Pro- fessor Raymond Tanter of the department of political sci- ence, University of Michigan; Dr. Phyllis Lassner, who teaches in the Women's Studies Program of the University of Michigan; and Professor Joseph Gutmann, retired professor of art and art history at Wayne State University. Professor Tanter has lec- tured extensively on the pro- blems of the Middle East and served on the national Securi- ty Council during the Reagan Administration. Dr. Lassner is the author of two books on the British writer Elizabeth Bowen, as well as articles on literary themes. Professor Gutmann is an art historian who specializes in Jewish and ancient and medieval art. This Elderhostel is kosher. The Butzel kitchen is under the supervision of the Coun- cil of Orthodox Rabbis. Though the residential pro- grams at Butzel are now full, day-only guests may attend four days of classes, Monday- Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. There is a fee.
