OBITUARIES Graveside Services Dr. Nathan Brooks Dr. Nathan Brooks, 78, of West Bloomfield, died April 10. He was a doctor of internal medicine who practiced in the Detroit area for 51 years. He • was a major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. during World War II and he was awarded the Silver Star. Dr. Brooks was a graduate of Wayne State University Medical School in 1938. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Ameri- can College of Pulmonary Medicine, Professor of Medi- cine at Wayne State Univer- sity, past Associate Chief of Staff of Hutzel Hospital and a member of Temple Israel. He leaves his wife, Eva; daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Elliot Solomon of West Bloomfield, Anita and Patrick Daly of Farmington Hills; sons and daughters-in- law, James and Elizabeth of Fairfield, Iowa, Lawrence and Denise Wolfman; sisters, Estelle Miskin of Tucson, Ariz., Edith Stringer of Mississauga, Ont.; 10 grand- children. Van Dyan Van Dyan, 68, of Southfield, died April 10. Mr. Dyan was an artist in commercial and fine arts. He worked for McNamara Studios and Brown Art, il- lustrating cars. He leaves his sons, Robert of Studio City, Calif., Mark of Brentwood, Calif.; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Helen of Ontario, Canada. Sarah Klyman Sarah Klyman, 86, of Bloomfield Hills, died April 15. She was Woman of the Year in 1990 for the Albert Eins- tein Chapter of Hadassah and a member of Mizrachi. She leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Calvin and Dr. Cassandra of Bloomfield Hills; brother and sister-in- law, Harry and Ann White of Downsview, Ont.; two grand- children. Becky Krefman Becky Krefman, 40, of Paw Paw, formerly of Detroit, died April 13. Mrs. Krefman was born in Camden, Ark. and had been living in Paw Paw for the past 31/2 years. While in the Detroit area, Mrs. Krefman had been media director for Yoffe, Stone, August and for five years, was an account ex- ecutive for Channel 50. She was active with Women's American ORT and the American Cancer Society, serving as publicist for the American Cancer Society in Berien County. She also serv- ed as a Reach-to-Recovery volunteer and championed self-examination educational programs. She is survived by her hus- band, Stephen; sons, Lee, Nathaniel; daughters, Jessica, Rachael; father, Car- roll Wilson Harris of Camden, Ark.; brother and sister-in-law, Wightman and Brenda Harris; sister, Sandy Lawson of Lexington, Ky. Schuster Max D. Schuster, 88, of West Palm Beach, Fla., formerly of Detroit, died April 12. Mr. Schuster was an at- torney and owner of Great Lakes Smelting and Refining. He was a graduate of Univer- sity of Michigan Law School in 1926. He was a member of Franklin Hills Country Club, President of the Country Club in West Palm Beach and founding member of Men's ORT. He leaves his wife, Ruth; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Dr. Harold Jaffe of Birmingham, Judy and Lester Koploy of Southfield; sister, Rebecca of Southfield; six grandchildren. Leader Of Greek Jews Dies At 77 Athens (JTA) — Joseph Lovinger, president of the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece for 24 years, died of cancer April 9 in Athens. He was re- portedly 77. Mr. Lovinger, who is credited with raising the profile of the organized Jew- ish community here, was outspoken on Jewish issues of concern to him. During a January 1989 visit to World Jewish Con- gress headquarters in New York, he called for world ostracism of the Greek justice minister, who had de- scribed as a hero a Palestin- ian he refused to extradite to stand trial for the bloody Oc- tober 1982 terrorist attack on Rome's main synagogue. A vice president of the Eu- ropean Jewish Congress, Mr. Lovinger also spoke out against Kurt Waldheim, the Austrian president who served in a German army unit during World War II that, among other things, deported Jews.
