Library Dedicates
Glass Windows

The Huntington Woods
Library will host a dedication
ceremony 10 a.m. April 13 to
unveil the final installation of
a year-long stained-glass win-
dow project for the Adult
Library. The public is invited.
The library is located at
26415 Scotia.
Students from the Center
for Creative Studies — Col-
lege of Art and Design Glass
Department designed and
fabricated three clear, story
panels for the Children's
Library ten years ago under
the direction of crafts depart-
ment chairman, Herb Bab-
cock. In the fall of 1989, the
library asked Mr. Babcock to
create windows for its Adult
Library.
Herb Babcock designed the
new three-panel window,
which incorporates imagery
derived from the formation of
hand blown rondels and pull-
ed prism rods, constructed in
the CCS-CAD glass studios.
In solving a restoration pro-
blem a few years ago, the
prismatic rods were developed
and perfected to replace the
thin opel triangular-shaped
rod elements of a Tiffany
fireplace screen shown at the
Detroit Institute of Arts
Museum.
For information, call the
Center, 872-3118.

Museum Hosts
Bear Workshop

Original teddy bears made
by Detroit-area artist Earl
Krentzin are sold by the
Smithsonian Institution and
the Dallas Art Museum. Par-
ticipants in the Detroit
Historical Museum's Classic
Teddy Bear Workshop, 10
a.m. April 20, can make these
bears — under Mr. Krentzin's
direction and using his
pattern.
For more than 10 years, Mr.
Krentzin has been producing
teddy bears. During the
Detroit Historical Museum
workshop he will teach par-
ticipants how to sew a basic,
no-frills bear — using instruc-
tions that anyone with basic
sewing skills can follow.
There is a charge.
For information, call Lori
Naple, 833-1419.
