ED JONNA

A lot of good, knowledgeable
Ram's Horn experience has
entered the picture with new
ownership.
This is the fifth Ram's Horn
(opened first part of January)
owned by Tom and Barbara
Thomas, whose restaurant
know-how is certain to bring
former customers back.
Their other four are
Telegraph and Plymouth
(1980), Rochester Road and
Hamlin (1986), 24th Avenue
in Port Huron (1985), and the
first one, 12 Mile and Gratiot
(1976).
It's a family-owned chain
within a chain . . . Sons Tom,
34, Gregory, 31, and 26-year-
old daughter, Andrea, run the
other operations.
Ram's Horn number five by
Tom and Barbara seats 160 in
an atmosphere of much
cleanliness . . . The clean kit-
chen now also sports a broiler
for its fish and steaks .. .
something previously lacking.
There are new booths, new
carpeting, new ceiling and
wallpaper . . . Also new
signage and neon outside
with removal of the old awn-
ing . . . And all this done with
the place closed only 65 hours
. . . At one point, there were
22 workmen at the same time
. . . When the weather breaks
around April, the parking lot
will be re-asphalt paved .. .
Another thing this Ram's
Horn has sorely needed.
Tom and Barbara have a
trait also important in the
restaurant game . . . They
train new employees in their
know-how ways of customer
satisfaction, which the fami-
ly stresses, instead of bring-
ing habits from another
restaurant, good or bad.
Hard to beat successful ex-
perience . . . a very valuable
criteria in the restaurant
business.
THIRD GRADERS at a
nearby elementary school in
Romulus are being taught
good table manners by the
staff of Merriman Street Grill
near Metro Airport . . . As
reward for their endeavors,
the students get a free meal
at the restaurant.
Merriman Inn and Grill are
owned by local developers
Leonard Siegal and Archie
Sills who, when they stay at
the Inn, always choose rooms
with hot tubs.
PROOF THAT politeness
and keeping one's word pays
off is recent promotion of
David Burke at Audette
Cadillac on Orchard Lake
Road . . . The former
salesman is now its general
sales manager.

The Merchant of Vino

NO MISTAKE . . . the
name is Sew Biz (not Show
Biz) coming in May to Ap-
plegate Square on North-
western.

STEVE EICHENHORN,

Tamaroff Honda sales
manager, likes this one about
the little old lady who got on
a plane for the first time and
complained her ears felt fun-
ny . . . The stewardess gave
her some gum and said that
it may help . . . When they
landed, the stewardess asked
if that had taken away the
popping . . . The little old lady
replied, "Yes, it certainly did,
but it was pretty messy trying
to get the gum out of my
ears." ❑
