Music Society
April 9 Concert

The Chamber Music Socie-
ty of Detroit will present the
Detroit premiere of French
pianist, Helene Grimaud, 8
p.m. April 9 at Detroit's Or-
chestra Hall.
Miss Grimaud first came to
international attention five
years ago with her recording
of the Rachmaninov second
piano sonata. She was 15.
In 1987, Daniel Barenboim
invited Ms. Grimaud to ap-
pear with 1'Orchestre de
Paris. In 1988, she performed
with Gidon Kremer at the
Lockenhaus Festival in
Austria. Her U.S. debut was
in 1990 at Washington, D.C.'s
Kennedy Center.
For the Detroit appearance,
Miss Grimaud will perform
Bach-Busoni's Chaconne,

from Violin Partita No. 2 in D
minor, Beethoven's Sonata in
A flat major, Brahms' Six
Piano Pieces, and Sonata No.
2 in F sharp minor.

Benefit Concert For
U-M Music School

The
University
of
Michigan's School of Music
will present the 1991 Power
Party, a benefit concert of
musical favorites from opera,
operetta, and musical theatre,
8 p.m. April 6 at the Power
Center in Ann Arbor.
The faculty members are
world-class performers who
have sung major roles at the
Metropolitan Opera, the
Royal Opera House and Stut-
tgart Opera.
In addition to the concert,
the School of Music also will
host a post-concert benefit in
the Power Center. Proceeds
from the evening will benefit
the School of Music Endow-
ment Fund, which assists
talented young people prepar-
ing for careers in music.
