Barbara Cohen (Lothrup).
Ages 7-10. Everyone likes a
good piece of gefilte fish at the
seder, especially if Mama
"makes the gefilte fish in
Flatbush," but would you like
to eat gefilte fish if the fish
was a friend of yours? Leah
and her brother Harry
befriend the carp in their
bathtub and then struggle
valiantly to save him from be-
ing made into Mama's
delicious gefilte fish for the
seder.

Peretz, this is a legend about
the Prophet Elijah. Disguised
as a traveling magician, Eli-
jah comes to a small town just
before Passover. When he
finds an old pious couple
without anything for the
seder, he conjures up a feast
for them.

Lynne Schwartz (Dial). Ages
5-12. Fanciful gouache paint-
ings by Ori Sherman high-
light the Four Questions,
rituals and symbols of the
seder. Monkeys dip herbs,
lions recline and elephants
eat matzah.

for a different word or phrase
