Wayne State University
Press, has been named an
"Outstanding Academic Book
1990-1991" by Choice, a na-
tional college library
publication.
The book by Victor A.
Mirelman investigates the
period that saw a major
migration of Jews from North
Africa and Eastern Europe to
Argentina. Using materials
from Argentine archives, Mr.
Mirelman describes the im-
migration and settlement
process and studies the first
generation of Argentine-born
Jews. The book pays special
attention to Jewish assimila-
tion and acculturation.
Victor Mirelman was born
in Buenos Aires and is a rab-
bi in River Forest, Ill.
