Midrasha Class
Set For April
Temple Emanu-El and the
Midrasha-College of Jewish
Studies will co-sponsor a
series of courses Mondays,
April 8-29, at Temple
Emanu-El.
Rabbi Elie Finkelman of
Wayne State University
Hillel will teach a course en-
titled, "Freedom and Respon-
sibility: Passover and Shavuot
Themes." Rabbi Finkelman
will deal with how we take
responsibility for our freedom
and what role the Torah can
play. This course will be 7-8
p.m.
Naomi Blumenberg of the
Agency for Jewish Education
will teach a course entitled,
"Jewish Art." This course will
be an introduction to Jewish
art, both history as well as
hands-on experience. Materi-
al objects will be used as
primary sources to learn
about Judaism and as models
for ritual objects. This course
will be held 7-9 p.m.
Dr. Judith Laikin Elkin of
the University of Michigan
will teach a course entitled,
"1992: Meeting the Millen-
nium Half Way." Topics of
discussion will include the
Jews of Spain, the Jewish par-
ticipation in the voyages of
discovery, the Inquisition and
settlement in the New World.
This course will meet 7-8 p.m.
Rabbi David Feder of Tem-
ple Emanu-El will teach a
course entitled, "Jewish
Medical Ethics!' Rabbi Feder
will explore what Judaism
has to say about contem-
porary issues in medicine.
This course will meet 8-9 p.m.
Rabbi Joseph Gutmann of
Wayne State University will
teach a course entitled, "The
book of 'X. " This course will
explore theories of the origin
of the Torah. This course will
meet 8-9 p.m.
