Memorial Academy
To Honor Troops

The 1991 Holocaust
Memorial Academy sponsored
by the Shaarit Haplaytah
organization will recognize
the Desert Storm Gulf War
returnees and officers from
Wurtsmith Air Force Base.
The Memorial Academy,
marking the 46th anniver-
sary since the end of the
Holocaust, will take place 1
p.m. April 14 at the Maple-
Drake Jewish Community
Center.
The Memorial Academy
will honor the late Dr. Joseph
Sinz who was instrumental in
the transportation of several
Jewish children from Nazi
Germany to safety in Great
Britain. Dr. Sinz, who work-
ed for the Merck Pharmaceu-
tical Co. in Berlin, used his
position to facilitate this
rescue. Frank Sinz, son of Dr.
Joseph Sinz, will accept the
award.

The Department of
Michigan of the Jewish War
Veterans and the Jewish War
Veterans Auxiliaries are offer-
ing scholarships of $500 each,
available to high-achieving
students of the Detroit area.
Awardees to receive the
scholarship must be veteran-
related, of financial need,
have high scholastic records
and state why they want it.
These scholarships will be
presented at the Jewish War
Veterans Memorial Home in
June.
