its tuned port injection and elec-
tronically controlled automatic
transmission provide a smooth and
responsive driving experience. It has
10-square feet of trunk capacity, not
bad for a two-seater. We'll take it in
firecracker red with the newly-
available flame red interior.
The distinctive Saab 900 Thrbo con-
vertible ($32,995), a four-passenger
two-door model, was designed from
inception as a soft-top and rolls off
a conventional production line in
Sweden. Its cloth-covered top, with
electrically-heated glass rear window,
operates at the touch of a switch. It
is powered by a 2.0-liter, 160 horse-
power turbocharged engine with four
valves per cylinder and has a five-
speed manual transmission (three-
speed automatic optional).
There's a power top available on the
two-door four-passenger BMW 325i
convertible ($35,700). BMW calls its
2.5-liter, inline six-cylinder engine
"jewel-like" and says it "becomes
even more of a treat to the ears when
the top is down." The rear-drive vehi-
cle is available with either manual or
automatic transmission.
Oldsmobile's Cutlass Supreme four-
passenger convertible ($20,995) is
powered by a 3.1-liter V-6 with a four-
speed automatic transmission. It has
a power-operated top, a structural top
bar, full-width back seat, fully-finished
headliner, and a power-window sys-
tem that lowers all four windows at
once.
Pininfarina of Italy provides the
"coachwork" for Cadillac's flagship
Allante. Cadillac provides the 4.5-liter
V8 engine. You can get the Allante
convertible ($55,250) or the conver-
tible hardtop ($60,800) with a re-
movable aluminum top.
Luxuries include the Delco-Bose
Gold Series sound system, incor-
porating both cassette tape and CD
players; a PASS-Key anti-theft system;
Recaro bucket seats of Italian-made
leather; driver and passenger power
seat adjusters, recliners and lumbar
supports.
Nissan's new Infiniti M30 converti-
ble ($31,000) has a one-touch button
that raises and lowers the top and
windows. It is a sporty four-seater
with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, lit-
