Swidler Gallery
Exhibits Ceramists
Swidler Gallery will feature
the work of ceramist John
Gill and Gregory A. Zeorlin
March 23-April 20. An open-
ing reception will be held
6-8:30 p.m. March 23 to which
the public is invited. A slide
lecture by Mr. Zeorlin will be
at 6:30 p.m.
John Gill darts, folds, and
stretches slabs of stoneware
clay to form new interpreta-
tions of the functional vessel.
His method of manipulating
the pot's volume extends to
his use of color in glaze com-
position and texture. Mr.
Gill's technique has been
compared to that of a child
trying to punch his way out of
a pot. Associate Professor,
New York State College of
Ceramics, Alfred University,
John Gill studied at Kansas
City Art Institute receiving
his BFA in 1973 and at
NYSCC at Alfred University
taking his MFA in 1975. His
work has been included in
such public and private collec-
tions as Los Angeles County
Museum, Masselon Museum,
OH, Brooklyn Museum,
Rhode Island School of
Design Museum and Robert
L. Pfannenbecker.
Gregory A. Zeorlin's com-
positions of pots and boxes,
and abstractions of man-
made objects have a type of
implied function. They reflect
his interest in clocks, grave
markers, street signs and all
the ways we receive informa-
tion in a nonverbal way from
the world in and around us.
He projects this through
brightly glazed and pattern-
ed constructions of thrown
and hand-built earthenware
components. A studio artist,
Mr. Zeorlin studied at Chris-
tian Brothers University, TN
receiving his BA in 1978. He
has been a guest instructor at
several schools throughout
the United States including
his residence at Rhode Island
School of Design.
Swidler Gallery is located

Royal Oak, Mich. Gallery

hibition of 33 silver gelatin
prints by Beth Linn, through

que set of carved family tomb-
stones as stages for miniature
scenes created from an array
personal treasures.
