Dance Program
In Ann Arbor

As part of its 1990-91 Youth
Program presentations, the
University Musical Society of
the University of Michigan
will collaborate with the
- Joseph Holmes Chicago
Dance Theatre to present a
"Chance to Dance" ex-
perience for 6th, 7th and 8th
grade students 10 a.m. April
1 in the Power Center for the
Performing Arts.
In cooperation with middle
school teachers, the Musical
Society is providing up to
1400 discounted tickets for
students and chaperones. For

The Joseph Holmes
Chicago Dance Theatre has
three pm-poses: to help young
people understand and ap-
preciate dance as an art form,
to understand and appreciate
the dancer's discipline and
training, and finally, to en-
courage young people to
think of dance as a viable
career choice.
The first part of "Chance to
Dance" deals verbally and
visually with the dancer's
training in ballet, modern,
and jazz dance, each discuss-
ed and then illustrated in a
short example of a training
class. The second part of the
program is a performance of
some of the Chicago Dance
Theatre's repertoire, accom-
panied by an explanation of
each work. In the final sec-
tion, the dancers introduce
themselves and talk about
their backgrounds followed by
a question and answer ses-
sion in which all dancers and
the artistic director Randy
Duncan participate.

give an evening performance
in the Musical Society's
Choice Series 8 p.m. April 2
in the Power Center for the
Performing Arts.
