Detroiter Wins Personal Race > STAFF REPORT im Cantor's 2 1/2-week odyssey in the 1,100-mile Iditarod dog sled race in Alaska ended Wednesday when the former Detroiter finished 46th in the international event. Competing in his first Iditarod, Mr. Cantor and his dog team joined the Finishers Club, winning an automatic $1,000 for com- pleting the grueling race. Seventy-five teams began the Iditarod race March 2. The storms which affected the leaders' finish last Sun- day also slowed Mr. Cantor. Race observers said it was the worst weather in the 19- year history of the Iditarod. At one point, Mr. Cantor built a snow cave to protect himself and his dogs from the weather. Mr. Cantor took a leave from his law practice last fall to prepare for the race.
