Personal Race

im Cantor's 2 1/2-week
odyssey in the
1,100-mile Iditarod dog
sled race in Alaska ended
Wednesday when the former
Detroiter finished 46th in
the international event.
Competing in his first
Iditarod, Mr. Cantor and his
dog team joined the
Finishers Club, winning an
automatic $1,000 for com-
pleting the grueling race.
Seventy-five teams began
the Iditarod race March 2.
The storms which affected
the leaders' finish last Sun-
day also slowed Mr. Cantor.
Race observers said it was
the worst weather in the 19-
year history of the Iditarod.
At one point, Mr. Cantor
built a snow cave to protect
himself and his dogs from
the weather.
Mr. Cantor took a leave
from his law practice last
fall to prepare for the race.

At Campaign Event

A sign-language interpreter
will be available to assist per-
sons with hearing disabilities
at the closing celebration of
the Allied Jewish Campaign
7:30 p.m. March 25 at the
Maple-Drake Jewish Com-
munity Center.
The gathering will feature
"Tel Aviv: Arise and Sing!"
an Israeli revue in Hebrew,
Yiddish and English.
Lawrence Jackier and
Joseph Orley will chair the
event, which will highlight
agencies and services sup-
ported by the Campaign.
There is a small charge for

Hadassah Sets
Yiddish Classes

Chapter of Hadassah will
sponsor two Yiddish classes.
The class for beginners will
be led by Rabbi Sherman P.
Kirshner of Congregation
B'nai Israel and will meet
10-11:30 a.m. on Mondays for
five weeks beginning April 8
at Hadassah House.
There will be a Yiddish con-
versation group for those who
speak a more fluent Yiddish.
The class will be taught by a
Hadassah member and will
