Ann Arbor JCC
Freedom Seder

Blacks and Jews will
celebrate their common
heritage of liberation from
slavery in a black/Jewish
freedom seder 6 p.m. March
25 at the Jewish Community
Center in Ann Arbor.
Organized by the Black/
Jewish Coalition, the seder
will feature "slave cake" and
cornmeal "hard tac" along-
side matzah in a unique ver-
sion of the traditional Pass-
over feast. An original
Hagaddah will incorporate
readings, poetry and music
from both traditions.
One in a series of events
sponsored by the Black/
Jewish Coalition, including
ongoing efforts to jointly
rehabilitate public housing in
Ypsilanti, the seder is being
organized by Jesse Gordon
and Mickey Price. The
Hagaddah is being compiled
by Rabbi Robert Levy of Tem-
ple Beth Emeth, Judith Seid
of the Jewish Cultural Socie-
ty and Dr. Ruth Moorman, of
Ypsilanti.
The seder is a family event;
there is a charge. For reserva-
tions by March 18, call the
JCC, 971-0990.

Matzah Factory

Youngsters are invited to
enjoy a unique hands-on Pass-
over experience at a "Matzah
Factory" to be sponsored by
the Jewish Community Cen-
ter of Washtenaw County in
mid-March.
Participants will view a
Passover video, listen to the
story of the Jews' exodus from
Egypt, and fashion matzah
from a ball of dough. An out-
side oven will be manned by
Rabbi Aharon Goldstein of
Chabad House.
The Matzah Factory will be
open on March 15, 17, 18 from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations
are necessary for the 20
minute tour; $1.50 per child.
