Egon Mayer, author, pro-
fessor and sociologist, will be
Temple Beth El's 1991
Theodore and Mina Bargman
Scholar in Residence. He will
speak 8 p.m. March 22 and 11
a.m. March 23. Dr. Mayer will
conclude his visit 9:30 a.m.
March 24, at a Brotherhood
breakfast.
A professor of sociology at
Brooklyn College and former
president of the Association
for the Sociological Study of
Jewry, Egon Mayer is a gra-
duate of Brooklyn College
and a recipient of an M.A.
from the New School for
Social Research and a Ph.D.
from Rutgers University. Dr.
Mayer is a specialist in the
study of religious and ethnic
values in family life and com-
munity organizatiaons and
has directed major studies on
intermarriage on behalf of
The American Jewish
Committee.
His Friday topic will be
"Love and Tradition: From
Outrage to Outreach, Respon-
ding to Intermarriage." On
Saturday, he will speak on
"Jews by Choice: Who Con-
verts, Who Doesn't and
Why?" On Sunday, Dr. Mayer
will discuss "American Jewry
Toward the Year 2000: A New
Agenda for Jewish Survival."
The public is welcome at all
three programs. There is a
charge for the Sunday

Casino Night

Congregation Beth Shalom
will have its sixth annual Las
Vegas Night 8:30 p.m.-12:30
a.m. March 16 in the
synagogue.
Las Vegas-style games will
be played for cash prizes. Pro-
ceeds will benefit the
synagogue. Refreshments will
be available at a charge.

Congregation Beth Shalom
will celebrate the 55th Na-
tional Annual Men's Club
Shabbat March 16.
This year's national theme
focuses on "our brethren from
the Soviet Union." The Beth
Shalom Men's Club is in-
viting any recently resettled
Soviet Jew to accept a com-
plimentary membership in
Men's Club.
In honor of Men's Club
Shabbat, the service will be
led by 27 Beth Shalom Men's
Club members.
Participants will be
honored in a special kiddush
following the service. Par-
ticipants include: Mel Foster,
Martin Taylor, Murray Rubin,
Sander Lipman, Bernie Ham-
mer, Murray Ehrinpreis, Jack
