Ms. Shecter, who is look- ing for a job in desk-top publishing, said she's look- ing for a place where she can concentrate on her career. "It's hard to be on a schedule when you're living someone else's lifestyle," she said. "It's even worse when your roommates start in- truding into your personal life." One sticky situation oc- curred when Ms. Shecter started dating one of her roommate's former boy- friends. "She thought they were still going out," Ms. Shecter said. "It got really bad when he couldn't come into the apartment." Now, Ms. Shecter said, her roommate listens in on her conversations and wants to know everything about her social life. "She even calls my friends now," she said. "And on top of that, she's a cleaning freak. She must vacuum three times every day." Ms. Shecter admits she will probably miss not hav- ing someone to come home to. "It can be nice to have people around all the time. It's also good practice for when you get married. Liv- ing with other people can be a positive experience, but it's also very chancy." Jeff Weisserman, 28, of Singles Meet On Relationships The Jewish Community Center Singles will host a "Relationship Enhancement Group for Singles," beginning in April for thirteen weeks. The purpose of the groups will be to enhance self-esteem and increase one's ability to develop and maintain in- timate relationships. Assertiveness training, let- ting go of resentment towards past relationships, coping with emotions and attitudes toward helping to increase in- timacy, will be taught in small groups. The groups will be led by Shirley Berman and other staff at Wayne State Univer- sity's psychology clinic, using experiential and other techni- ques. Sessions will be held at the Maple-Drake building and will cost $2.00 each plus the cost of three textbooks. For information by March 20, call the Wayne State University Psychology Clinic, 577-2840. West Bloomfield, is in the market for a new roommate. He wishes he weren't. His former roommate of 1 1/2 years is leaving to be mar- ried. "Ron and I had a great re- lationship. He'd get up after I had left and usually come home after I was asleep. Oc- casionally, we'd notice signs of each other's existence." Mr. Weisserman recently placed an ad for a new roommate. One woman called wanting to know if he'd mind living with her 77- year-old father. "It's very frustrating," he said. "Trying to find a com- patible roommate is a little like finding the right mar- riage partner. You have to consider personality and chemistry." ❑ New Horizons Movie Party The New Horizons Chapter of City of Hope (singles 40 and up) will hold a movie par- ty 7 p.m. March 23 at the Americana Theatre and at- tend a movie.
