BACKGROUND: Linda Lee grew up in northwest Detroit attending Bagley Elementary School. Her father Manufactured school uniforms, while her mother was the manager of Irving's Gift Shop. As a youngster, she went to Fresh Air camps and enjoyed roller-skating at the JCC. After she was graduated from Wayne State University in 1966, she taught in the Southfield school system at McKinley Elementary. While raising her family, she became a volunteer in the community, working with ORT, Jewish Welfare Federation and other organizations. In 1979 she was offered a position on the JCC board. "It's a great place for volunteers. There are so many opportunities for you to do as little or as much as you want to do. Once I got on a committee, I never left," said Mrs. Lee. She is currently serving a one-year term as president. In February, she was honored for outstanding volunteerism by the United Way for Southeastern Michigan with the Heart of Gold Award. Mrs. Lee believes volunteers can make a difference in the community and is thankful for the support of her husband and family. ❑ 108 FRIDAY, MARCH 15, 1991
