Lip-Sync Contest

Lip-syncing will not only be
accepted, it will be expected
at the Michigan Opera
Theatre Lip-Sync Contest
noon April 18 in the Jefferson
Atrium of Detroit's
Renaissance Center.
The contest will be spon-
sored by MOT, Ford, Harmony
House, WQRS Radio and the
Renaissance Center. Par-
ticipants will lip-sync to their
favorite recorded arias and
will be judged on costume,
presentation and enthusiasm.
These "performers" will com-
pete for various prizes in-
cluding a Mostly Mozart
Weekend in New York and a
Mozart Magic In Motor City
Weekend.
Contest applications will be
available after Mar. 1, at area
Harmony House stores and
through WQRS-FM Classical
Radio Station.
The Michigan Opera
Theatre Lip-Sync Contest is
one element of "Mozart
Magic in Motor City," which
was initiated by MOT and
Ford. The ongoing program
includes MOT's production of
The Magic Flute, scheduled
for Apr. 27-May 4, at the
Masonic Temple, and the
1991 Opera Ball, scheduled
for May 3 at the Ritz-Carlton,
Dearborn.

Mar. 30 at the Ann Arbor
Summer Festival's third an-
nual Winter Warm-Up at Hill
Auditorium, Ann Arbor.

Sets Concerts

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble at
Wayne State University is
planning a European concert
tour July 11-21, having been
invited to perform at the 25th
annual Montreux Jazz Festi-
val in Switzerland and the
700th Swiss Anniversary
Celebration which coincides
with the festival.
The ensemble will perform
with musicians such as Oscar
Petersen and Manhattan
Transfer. The ensemble has
also been invited to perform
in Lausanne, Interlaken and
Les Biablarets.
