he premiere of former
Detroiter Robert
Shaye's film Book of
Love was held on Feb. 27 at
the Star Theatres in
Madison Heights to benefit
the Variety Club charity for
children. Mr. Shaye
directed, produced and
distributed the film and is
chairman of New Line
Cinema. "I may never work
for myself again," vowed Mr.
Shaye in a speech to the au-
dience before the premiere.
The film's stars Keith
Coogan, grandson of
Jackie Coogan, and
Tricia Leigh Fisher, the
daughter. of Connie

Book of Love is a comedy
about a man who looks back
into the pages of his high
school yearbook attempting
to revitalize his high school
dreams and the nostalgic era
of the 1950s. Although the
story was shot in Scranton,
Pa., Mr. Shaye believes the
setting could easily be
Detroit. He says that the
teen-agers of the 1950s
didn't worry about crack co-
caine or war, just about get-
ting a date for the high
school prom and a kiss good
night.

ident of sales for Orion home
video.
Mr. Shaye is an alumnus
of Mumford High School's
class of 1956, and he arrang-
ed for the Mumford mar-
ching band to play at the re-
ception. Patrons received
their own copy of a book of
love — a little black address
book with the inscription,
"Guys need all the help they
can get." Guests also had the
opportunity to sign an
enlarged photo of Mr. Shaye
