Passover Resorts:
Skiing And Scholars
ROSE KLEINER
Special to The Jewish News
assover has become a
time for many families
and individuals to
schedule their annual vaca-
tions. Resorts in different
parts of North America,
aware of this development,
are now advertising strictly
kosher Passover destinations
as early as the preceding fall.
The choices are numerous
and diverse. This year one can
plan a skiing holiday, even on
Passover, or a Caribbean stay.
One can explore the West
Coast, in a number of resorts
(even one with a scholar-in-
residence), or stay close to
New York City, and enjoy its
attractions, in between the
Passover celebrations.
A combination ski vacation
and Passover celebration is
available this year at the
Hyatt Regency Beaver Creek,
in Colorado.
A Caribbean Passover vaca-
tion is now possible at the
Golden Tulip Resort in
Aruba, where a fitness center,
tennis and water sports,
along with traditional seders
and religious services, are
part of the package.
Another Passover vacation
by the blue waters is offered
this year in Mexico, at the
Acapulco Pierre Marques
Princess.
In the U.S., the East and
West coasts and Florida are
the three most popular areas
for Passover vacations. On the
East Coast, as far north as
Cape Cod, Mass., the Tara
Hyannis is being outfitted for
Passover celebrations.
In New Jersey, the Ocean
Place Resort, of Long Branch,
and Atlantic City's Interna-
tional Hotel are other
Passover sites by the sea.
The Pocono Mountains, in
Pennsylvania, is the locale for
a number of different resorts
with Passover packages.
Mount Airy Lodge, only 90
minutes from New York City,
boasts a "huge indoor sports
Palace," with free ice skating
(and free skate rental), and an
Olympic-sized pool. This
resort has Torah classes, top
Broadway shows, horseback
riding, free boating and
sailing.
p
The entire Tamiment
Resort, in the Poconos, is
kosher for Passover. Exten-
sive recreation facilities and
Torah classes await guests at
this resort, where the Tea
Room remains open at all
times.
In the Catskill Mountains,
Passover can be celebrated at
the Homowack, the Concord
and the New Brown's Resort.
The Concord provides Or-
thodox, Sephardic and Con-
servative services for guests.
For children it makes a
special Passover pizza. Its
entertainment agenda for a
Passover will feature klezmer
music, speakers, and ap-
pearances by actor Red But-
tons and singer Tony Martin.
At the New Brown's Resort,
the entire hotel is kosher for
Passover. Recently renovated
at a cost of $2 million, the
resort is situated on 260 acres
of land and houses numerous
sports and athletic facilities.
There is a health club, indoor
roller-skating rink, indoor
pool and other attractions.
Going south, to Florida,
families can spend Passover
All this is, of
course, in addition
to the traditional
Passover seders
and holiday
celebrations.
this year near Disney World
and the Epcot Center by stay-
ing at the Innisbrook Resort
in Tampa, situated on a 1,000
acre wooded estate.
Orlando's Sheraton World
Resort lists, for Passover, a
Gala Midnight Buffet, a
24-hour Tea Room, along with
exclusive Passover shows at
Sea World and Universal
Studios. All this is, of course,
in addition to the traditional
Passover seders and holiday
celebrations.
A combination spa and
fitness vacation plus Passover
celebration is available at the
Bonaventure Resort in Fort
Lauderdale, where the entire
hotel will be kosher for
Passover.
In Miami Beach, besides
the year-round kosher hotels,
the Fontainebleau and the
Alexander will host Passover
guests as well. The all-suite
Alexander also has special
seder packages, in addition to
the full holiday packages. The
hotel's beautiful grounds
have two pools, several whirl-
pools and a waterfall. Its
spacious two-bedroom suites
can accommodate up to six
people.
A new restaurant in Miami
Beach, Benjamin's, will be
kosher for Passover. Those
staying nearby can have their
Passover meals at this restau-
rant and enjoy the freedom of
going by their own schedule
